San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo’s (28) streak of reaching base in consecutive games came to an end.
Lee, batting fifth and playing right field, went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in the Giants’ road game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA on August 23 (Korean time).
The 28-year-old’s on-base streak, which began on August 25 against the Cincinnati Reds, stopped at ‘8’ games. His season batting average dipped to .282.
Lee struggled against Pirates’ rookie starter Bubba Chandler, failing to get a hit in three at-bats.
After striking out in the second and fourth innings, Lee had a chance with runners on the corners and two outs in the fifth. He made solid contact with a fastball down the middle but could only manage a fly out to left field.
In the eighth, Lee faced reliever Carmen Mlodzinski but again flied out to left, unable to reach base.
The game went into extra innings, giving Lee another opportunity. In the top of the 10th with two outs and a runner on third, he faced Camilo Doval’s slider but once again flew out to left.
Despite Lee’s struggles, the Giants rallied for two runs in the 10th to edge the Pirates 5-4, avenging the previous day’s walk-off loss.
With the win, San Francisco improved to 58-82 on the season, holding fourth place in the National League West.
