The San Diego Padres have extended their winning streak to four games in Major League Baseball (MLB). Song Seong-mun, who was on the bench, did not see any action in the game.
On Thursday, the Padres dominated the Washington Nationals with a 9-2 victory at Petco Park in San Diego, California.
With this win, San Diego improved their season record to 78-68, pulling even with the Arizona Lizzobacks (78-68) for the third National League Wild Card spot. Arizona will look to continue their own hot streak as they face the Kansas City Royals, aiming for their fifth consecutive win.
Song Seong-mun, who made a defensive appearance in the previous game, didn’t even get a chance to enter as a substitute this time. His opportunities at the plate have been scarce lately.
Song’s last at-bat came on September 2 against the Cincinnati Reds. Since then, he’s gone eight days without a chance to swing the bat.
Despite starter Walker Buehler’s early exit after allowing two runs in 2⅓ innings, the Padres’ bullpen stepped up with a stellar performance, shutting out the Nationals for the remainder of the game.
Former NC Dinos pitcher Kyle Hart, who played in the KBO League, came in as the second pitcher for San Diego. He tossed 2⅓ scoreless innings to earn the win in relief.
The Padres’ offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Jackson Merrill’s monster performance. Batting fifth, Merrill crushed two home runs as part of a 4-for-5 day, driving in six runs and scoring twice. Leadoff hitter Fernando Tatis Jr. and cleanup batter Ty France also contributed significantly, each collecting three hits to help secure the victory.
