Robert Moreno, the new head coach of the South Korean national soccer team, is set to personally attend Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite (ACLE) matches to evaluate player performances.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on Tuesday that Moreno and his coaching staff will observe the ACLE match between Daejeon Hana Citizen and Kyoto Sanga (Japan) today. Tomorrow, they’ll head to the stadium for the clash between Jeonbuk Hyundai and Kashiwa Reysol (Japan).
Moreno explained his intentions, saying tha by visiting these stadiums, he aims to immerse myself in Korea’s soccer culture and facilities while getting a firsthand look at the players in action. Beyond assessing the current squad, he’s also on the lookout for potential national team prospects.
The entire coaching staff will join Moreno for these scouting trips. Performance analysts will also be present, meticulously studying player movements and overall game performance.
Moreno kicked off his tenure as interim head coach on September 1, with his first official duties including the roster announcement and introductory press conference on Monday.
For his inaugural squad, Moreno has called up 12 players from the K League, including Jeonbuk’s trio of Jo Ui-jae, Kim Tae-hyun, and Song Bum-keun, as well as Kim Bong-soo from Daejeon.
The national team, under its new leadership, will commence training camp on September 21 and face Ecuador in their first match at Suwon World Cup Stadium on September 24.
