Seventeen’s S.Coups recently opened up about a memorable comment he received from a choreographer during the group’s debut days.
On Monday, the YouTube channel “Channel Bandal” released a video titled “If You Could Debut Again, Would You Choose to Be the Leader?” The episode featured an all-star lineup including Sechs Kies’ Eun Ji-won, EXO’s Suho, Seventeen’s S.Coups, and BOYNEXTDOOR’s Myung Jae-hyun.
During the interview, the production team asked the guests about moments that fueled their determination as leaders. Myung Jae-hyun shared that it was when someone predicted the group would fail. It vividly remembers feeling discouraged at the first MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) after debut. The Seventeen members approached them and said, ‘You remind us of ourselves. You have the potential to become the biggest group out there.’ Those words really stuck with him.
S.Coups chimed in with his own anecdote, revealing that there was this choreographer who boldly claimed, ‘If you guys make it big, I’ll hand over my entire fortune to you.'” Eun Ji-won playfully retorted, “As if you need it! You’re probably richer than him now. Why don’t you throw some cash his way instead?” S.Coups laughed and added that he’d love to grab a drink with him someday and hear the full story behind that statement.
Eun Ji-won related to the experience, saying that he’s been there too. Someone once told them, ‘Your group is destined to fail.’ But unlike the others, he didn’t feel motivated to prove them wrong. It actually disbanded right after that. His candid admission drew laughter from the group, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry.
