BLACKPINK’s Lisa has made history by shattering the glass ceiling in the American pop music scene, long considered an impenetrable fortress.
At the star-studded 2026 MTV Video Music Awards’ held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 27, Lisa clinched the coveted Best Pop award for her hit single “Dream” featuring Sakaguchi Kentaro.
This groundbreaking win marks only the second time an Asian artist has claimed the Best Pop title at the MTV VMAs, following BTS’s triumph in 2020. Lisa now stands as the first Asian solo artist and the first K-pop soloist to achieve this prestigious honor.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Lisa shared that the dreams she has held close during countless late nights have led me to this incredible moment. She owes a huge thank you to her Lilies; without their unwavering support, she wouldn’t be standing on this stage today.
The fiercely competitive category saw Lisa up against industry heavyweights including Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, and Taylor Swift.
This latest accolade expands Lisa’s impressive trophy collection beyond the K-pop realm, solidifying her status as a global pop icon. She previously clinched the Best K-pop award twice, for “LALISA” in 2022 and “ROCKSTAR” in 2024.
Lisa’s stellar year continues as “Dream” earned her nominations in four categories at this year’s VMAs, including Best Pop, Best K-pop, Best Visual Effects, and Best Editing.
