BTS member RM is set to unveil his decade-long art collection for the first time at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
Big Hit Music, RM’s agency, announced that the special exhibition RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me will run from October 3, 2026, to February 7, 2027 (local time) at SFMOMA.
This groundbreaking exhibition marks the first public display of RM’s personal collection and SFMOMA’s inaugural collaboration with a K-pop artist. The showcase will feature approximately 180 pieces, including 140 from RM’s private collection alongside select works from the museum’s holdings.
He believes a collection amassed by an individual over time offers a rare, candid glimpse into their persona, RM shared through his agency. Further noting that this exhibition will serve as an extensive self-portrait.
RM worked closely with SFMOMA co-curators América Castillo and Kim Hyo-eun to curate the artworks and design the exhibition layout. He personally penned the exhibition texts and artwork descriptions in both Korean and English, and contributed to the bilingual audio guide and exhibition playlist.
The exhibition will showcase an eclectic mix of artists, including Korean luminaries such as Yoon Hyung-keun, Park Rae-hyun, and Chang Ucchin, alongside international icons like Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, and Georgia O’Keeffe from SFMOMA’s collection. Visitors can expect a comprehensive journey through Korean art history, from 5th-century artifacts to contemporary pieces, spanning ceramics, calligraphy, painting, and sculpture.
Reflecting on his collection of modern and contemporary Korean artists, RM explained that while some names may be unfamiliar to international audiences, he aimed to contribute a fresh perspective and sensibility to the global art conversation.
RM has long been recognized as an art aficionado, frequently visiting museums and supporting various art initiatives. In 2020, he made a significant contribution of 100 million KRW (approximately 73,780 USD) to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Foundation. This generous donation funded the reproduction of 4,000 out-of-print Korean art catalogs, which were distributed to 400 public and school libraries across South Korea.
