In Major League Soccer (MLS), LA FC forward Son Heung-min (34) played the full 90 minutes but failed to make an impact on the scoresheet. Following a change in leadership, LA FC has now gone four games without a win (two draws and two losses), coinciding with Son’s goal drought.
Under interim coach Xavi Tamarit, LA FC drew 1-1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps in their 2026 MLS home game at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on October 11.
In their first match under new management, LA FC gained an early numerical advantage due to an opponent’s red card. However, they failed to capitalize on this opportunity, extending their winless streak to four games.
With this result, LA FC remains in sixth place, boasting a record of 11 wins, 9 draws, and 9 losses (42 points).
Vancouver, despite playing with ten men for approximately 85 minutes, maintains its lead in the Western Conference with an impressive 15 wins, 6 draws, and 7 losses (51 points).
Son Heung-min started in the attacking midfielder role and was active throughout the match. However, he couldn’t find the back of the net, with two of his crucial attempts thwarted by the opposing goalkeeper.
LA FC gained the upper hand just seven minutes into the game when Vancouver defender Tristan Blackmon saw red. Blackmon committed a foul on Jacob Shaffelburg, who had received a pass from Son and was through on goal in a one-on-one situation with the keeper.
LA FC looked to Son to spearhead their attack, but his free-kick in the 9th minute and an acrobatic effort in the 27th minute were both expertly saved by goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka.
After weathering several LA FC attacks, Vancouver gradually gained a foothold in the game. They broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute when Oliver Larraz pounced on the rebound after his initial header was saved by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, firing home to give the visitors the lead.
LA FC, who struggled to convert their chances in the first half, found an equalizer immediately after the restart. Sergio Palencia delivered a cross from the right flank, which Dennis Bouanga met with a powerful header to level the score.
LA FC continued to press, focusing their attacks down the right side through Palencia. However, they suffered a setback when Bouanga’s goal in the 53rd minute was ruled out for offside.
Despite introducing fresh legs in Leo Walta and Mark Delgado, LA FC couldn’t break down Vancouver’s resolute defense, ultimately having to settle for a single point.
