Girl group ILLIT is set to make a comeback with their new single “You’re Under Arrest,” reinforcing their signature ILLIT Core sound.
The quintet held a showcase for their fifth mini-album BREAK EVEN on Monday at the Blue Square OurWON Banking Hall in Itaewon, Seoul. During the event, ILLIT premiered the music video and live performance of “You’re Under Arrest” and shared insights about their latest release.
BREAK EVEN narrates ILLIT’s journey from pursuing a love interest to realizing their feelings were one-sided, ultimately declaring that they’re done with relationships that leave it at a loss. The album cleverly uses the financial term break-even point as a metaphor for emotional investment. It features four tracks: the title song “You’re Under Arrest,” “Super in Love,” “More,” and “Pop.”
Yoona expressed her excitement about showcasing ILLIT’s evolution with each comeback. It has put meticulous effort into every detail, from recording to choreography, given the song’s distinct concept, she said. It hopes people will keep a close eye on the fifth mini-album. Wonhee added that this being the first comeback since the success of “It’s Me,” it wanted to elevate the performance. She’s so confident in this album that she’d call it her personal favorite. They’d be grateful if people could listen to all the tracks. Minju shared her amazement at reaching their fifth mini-album release, while Iroha pledged to demonstrate ILLIT’s growth through this comeback.

The title track “You’re Under Arrest” is an electro-pop banger that serves as a warning to someone who misinterpreted routine kindness. ILLIT takes a firm stance, addressing past relationships without getting swept up in old emotions. The song features a catchy whistle hook, sharp synths, and punchy vocal effects. Notably, the music video includes a surprise cameo from actor Song Kang, adding star power to the release.
However, “You’re Under Arrest” stirred controversy following its debut performance at a recent encore concert. The group’s styling, which included police-inspired uniforms paired with knee-high socks, miniskirts, and fitted tops, drew criticism for potentially sexualizing female officers. Addressing the issue at the showcase, Yoona stated that they were both thrilled and surprised by the intense reaction to the “You’re Under Arrest” performance during the tour. It’s grateful for any attention the performances receive. She clarified that as you’ll see in the music video, they’re going for a Black Agent concept with various styling choices. It hopes you’ll continue to support and show interest in their work.

ILLIT is promoting as a quartet for this comeback. Member Mocha stepped back from activities in June due to severe anxiety. Minju acknowledged that preparing as four members, it really felt Mocha’s absence. It’s a shame she couldn’t join them, as it thinks she would have fit in perfectly. She added that Mocha still watches the content and cheers them on. While it’s promoting as four, it’ll carry Mocha’s spirit with them on stage. Iroha mentioned that Mocha listened to the new songs and gave her seal of approval. She’s working hard on her recovery, eager to return to the fans.
Iroha, who recently suffered an ankle injury, provided an update on her condition. It hurt its ankle while preparing for the recent concert, she explained. She’s sorry for causing worry and grateful for everyone’s concern and she’s focusing on recovery to ensure she can perform well during the promotional activities.
ILLIT’s fifth mini-album BREAK EVEN drops on various music platforms at 6:00 p.m. (KST) on Monday. The group kicks off their music show appearances on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank” on October 30.
