Samsung Electronics’ foldable phone series, the Galaxy Z Flip, has long struggled with a common complaint: short battery life. However, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected to debut in July, might finally address this issue. The new model features a larger battery capacity and improved power efficiency than its predecessor.

According to the Dutch tech site Galaxy Club, Samsung plans to increase the battery capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 by approximately 300 mAh compared to the previous model.

Due to its foldable design, the Galaxy Z Flip series uses two separate battery cells. Its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, had a 2,790 mAh battery on one side and a 1,097 mAh battery on the other. The total rated capacity was 3,887 mAh, with a practical capacity of 4,000 mAh.

Samsung is expected to include a larger 2,985 mAh battery (EB-BF767ABY) and a smaller 1,189 mAh battery (EB-BF766ABY) in the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7. This will bring the total rated capacity to 4,174 mAh, with an estimated practical capacity of 4,300 mAh—a 7.5% increase over the previous model.

For context, the Galaxy S series, which launched in early 2024, includes models with battery capacities of 4,000 mAh (standard), 4,900 mAh (Plus), and 5,000 mAh (Ultra).

The Galaxy Z Flip series has often been criticized for its limited battery life. Unlike traditional smartphones, which have more room for larger batteries, the Z Flip’s foldable design has made it challenging to increase the power capacity significantly.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7’s longer battery life is not solely due to the larger battery. Improvements in the mobile processor’s (AP) power efficiency are also expected to play a key role.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will likely feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite as its AP. This same processor, which will also power the Galaxy S25 series, offers a 27% improvement in overall power efficiency compared to its predecessor. This enhanced power efficiency should lead to further improvements in battery life.

An industry insider revealed, “Tests have shown that even with identical battery capacities, the Galaxy S25, powered by the Exynos 2400, lasts about 7-10% longer than its predecessor due to the improved AP. If the Galaxy Z Flip 7 incorporates a new AP and increased battery capacity as expected, its battery life could potentially exceed that of the standard Galaxy S series models.”
