High-ranking officials in North Korea visited the homes of war veterans (Korean War veterans) to encourage them. As the Day of Victory in the Great Fatherland Liberation War (Victory Day) approaches on July 27, the regime continuously promotes patriotism among its residents.
North Korea’s state-run media, Rodong Sinmun, reported today that “party and government officials, along with military institution leaders, visited the homes of war veterans on July 24.”
According to newspaper photos, the officials participating in this visit included Kim Tok Hun, Premier Choe Ryung Hae, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, Party Secretaries Park Jung Chon and Park Tae Song, Minister of National Defense Kang Sun Nam, and Director of the General Political Bureau Jong Kyung Taek, among others.
They presented bouquets and gifts to the veterans during the visit and shared meals with them.
The newspaper praised the war veterans, highlighting their indelibly laying a solid foundation for the state’s existence and development. It noted that even today, they serve as irreplaceable spiritual pillars for the Party and the people, benefactors who defended the motherland with their blood, and true teachers who have set an example of patriotic life for future generations.
It also observed that the officials deepened their sense of noble mission to carry on the victory generation’s loyalty and patriotic spirit as the revolution’s bloodline. This preparation reflects their commitment to realizing the sacred goals of a powerful nation, suggesting that the event aimed to reinforce the officials’ spirit of service.
Since taking power, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has prioritized honoring veterans. Seven of the eight veterans’ gatherings held in North Korea occurred during his leadership. He attended the veterans’ gatherings in 2015, 2020, and 2021. The last veterans’ gathering in North Korea took place in 2022 during the 8th Veterans’ Assembly, and last year, veterans were invited to the parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of Victory Day.
However, there has been no news about holding a veteran conference this year.
The newspaper has been highlighting the spirit of the victorious generation in articles leading up to Victory Day.
On the same day, the newspaper reported that over 600 heroic achievements were displayed in the Hall of Heroes of the Republic at the Museum of the Victory of the Fatherland Liberation War. It noted that the noble revolutionary spirit and achievements of the victory generation, who sacrificed their youth and lives to defend the homeland during the last Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War), serve as a sublime example of patriotism.
