South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in partnership with the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, announced today that it will host the 2nd Inter-Korean Cultural Exchange Education and Forum on September 10 at 2 PM at the Korea Museum of History Lecture Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Professor Han Seong Woo from Inha University will lecture on the contemporary North Korean language and cultural nuances at the forum. Dr. Han Jeong Mi will present examples of linguistic similarities and differences between North and South Korea, drawing from her experience teaching North Korean defectors at Hanawon.
Following these presentations, Han will moderate a discussion with Dr. Seol Song A, a North Korean defector and author, and Seo Jae Pyeong, Chairman of the North Korean Defector Association. They will share fascinating and lesser-known insights into North Korean language and culture.
Lee Hae Don, Director of Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, remarked, “While the division of the Korean Peninsula has limited cultural exchanges and intensified linguistic differences between North and South Korea, language remains a key part of our shared ethnic heritage.” He added, “Despite current tensions in inter-Korean relations, we hope this forum will enhance our understanding of cultural differences and help restore our shared ethnic identity and community.”
