North Korea’s state-run media, Rodong Sinmun, celebrated the nation’s youth in an editorial marking the annual Youth Day on August 28.

The editorial highlighted the contrast between North Korean youth and their global peers, stating, “While young generations around the world seek personal comfort and success, our revolutionary youth embrace hardships as a source of joy, remain devoted to their homeland, and contribute selflessly to society and the collective future.”

The newspaper praised the youth’s initiative and energy, calling them “an invaluable and powerful driving force for our party and people as we overcome obstacles to achieve our lofty goals.”

It also lauded Kim Jong Un as “the great teacher and loving parent who cherishes and nurtures the youth as the core of our socialist state” and urged, “All youth must remain aware of the party’s trust and expectations, bravely pursuing the revolution despite hardships.”

The editorial emphasized the need for youth to embody pride and patriotism during the “great Kim Jong Un era,” encouraging them to dedicate their youthful years to loyalty and service.

The newspaper also noted that the current disaster recovery efforts present an opportunity for youth to demonstrate their resolve and dedication.

North Korea is currently mobilizing many People’s Army members and young people to assist with recovery operations in flood-affected areas of the northwest.

Various events were held to celebrate Youth Day, including a performance by the Central Youth Art Propaganda Troupe. The event, titled “Special Detachment of the Party Central Committee, Forward, Patriotic Youth Army!” took place on Tuesday at the outdoor theater in Kaeson Youth Park, Pyongyang.

North Korea seems to use Youth Day as a strategic opportunity to mobilize its youth amidst challenging economic conditions. The aim is to unite them and reinforce their ideological commitment.
