North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a local development project council meeting, during which he advocated for constructing local factories, city and county hospitals, science and technology hubs, and grain management facilities to promote local development.
The state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Monday morning that Kim convened and led the local development project council meeting on Saturday.
During the meeting, Kim emphasized, “It is important to clearly identify and effectively carry out our responsibilities, including preparations for the operation of newly constructed facilities.”
Kim also inspected the construction site of a local factory in Hamju County, North Hamgyong Province. The newspaper dedicated pages 2 and 3 to report that Kim stressed the importance of quality in construction, stating, “The foundation of construction is quality, and any elements that neglect quality in favor of speed, no matter how minor, become harmful actions that hinder our Party’s local construction policy.”
On page 4, the newspaper reported that the Cabinet held a celebratory banquet on September 1 at the Okryu Restaurant to honor the athletes and coaches who won the 10th Asian Taekwondo Championships.
Kim also congratulated To Lam, the new General Secretary of the Communist Party and President of Vietnam, on the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s founding.
On page 5, the newspaper encouraged competition among units, stating, “Competition leads to development.” It described competition as a “powerful means to propel the overall development of the national economy vigorously,” urging workers to take on their responsibilities and roles. It also reported that following the construction of student shoe factories in Nampo, Wonsan, Pyongsong, Sariwon, and Hyesan, new factories are nearing completion in Hamhung and Chongjin.
On page 6, the newspaper featured a visit to the Bukchang Thermal Power Complex’s sanatorium, stating that “We were deeply moved by the joy of those receiving state benefits” and proclaiming that “Our people-centered socialism is truly the best, filling us with immense pride and confidence.”
