North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected the construction site of a local industrial factory in Sunchon County, South Pyongan Province, and reiterated his directive to complete the project perfectly by the end of 2024.
The state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Wednesday that Kim oversaw the local industrial factory construction project in Sunchon County, South Pyongan Province, on Tuesday.
During his visit, Kim expressed satisfaction with the tangible achievements made this year in implementing party decisions across 20 cities and counties.
He assessed the production quality of locally manufactured machinery and equipment, the assembly status, construction progress, the preparation of raw materials, and the training of skilled workers. The newspaper reported that Kim provided comprehensive guidance on local industrial plants’ management, operation, and future development.
Kim emphasized that the upcoming December party plenary meeting must accurately evaluate the first year’s progress of the Local Development 20×10 Policy. He highlighted the policy’s critical role in the comprehensive advancement of their socialist system and stressed the need to responsibly expand on the achievements and experiences gained.
The newspaper also conveyed that Kim underscored the situation’s urgency, stating, “There is little time left until the end of the year.” He issued critical directives regarding the completion of local industrial plant construction projects in the 20 cities and counties that have made progress this year and the preparation of the local construction plan for 2025.
North Korea’s 20×10 Local Development Policy aims to revitalize the local economy by building modern factories in 20 cities and counties annually over the next 10 years. This initiative was first introduced in January during the Supreme People’s Assembly and began in February with groundbreaking ceremonies. In August, additional goals were added, including the construction of healthcare facilities, science and technology dissemination hubs, and grain management facilities.
