The United Nations has condemned North Korea’s launch of a hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) on Monday, declaring it was a “clear violation of Security Council resolutions.”

According to Voice of America (VOA) on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General stated that Secretary-General António Guterres continues to express deep concern over the situation on the Korean Peninsula, particularly in light of North Korea’s recent missile provocations.

The spokesperson stated. “The Secretary-General has consistently urged for de-escalation, full compliance with Security Council resolutions, the creation of an environment to facilitate dialogue, and the resumption of talks.” He emphasized that diplomatic efforts are the only viable path toward sustainable peace and the complete, verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) reported that North Korea launched one intermediate-range ballistic missile from the Pyongyang area into the East Sea on Monday. The missile traveled approximately 1,100 kilometers before landing in the East Sea. This launch marks North Korea’s first military provocation of 2025.

On the following day, North Korea’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, claimed that the regime had successfully conducted a test launch of a new hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile on Monday.
