As the 75th anniversary of the Korean War approaches, North Korea is ramping up its anti-American rhetoric.
The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers’ Party of Korea, reported that a rally of workers and union members took place at the Central Class Culture Center on Sunday. The gathering was held to reaffirm their commitment to the struggle against U.S. imperialism on the anniversary of the Korean War.
The participants declared that more than 70 years have passed since the guns fell silent, but the unforgivable crimes committed by their enemies still burn in the hearts of workers and union members across the nation.
They emphasized that the imperialists’ invasive ambitions have only grown more brazen over time. They criticized that their enemies persist in reckless nuclear war provocations, gravely threatening the North Korean people’s right to exist and develop.
They asserted that the nation had risen to become an unassailable military power that no invading force would dare challenge, raising the sense that if the day of reckoning arrived, they would unleash their pent-up fury and retribution.
A similar gathering of students took place at the Victory Museum of the Fatherland Liberation War. These students condemned the atrocities of American imperialism as unforgivable sins that will echo through eternity. They pledged to become vanguard fighters against imperialism and U.S. aggression, fully aware that any illusions about their enemies would lead only to destruction.
North Korea typically designates the period from June 25 to July 27 (the date of the armistice agreement) as “Anti-American Joint Struggle Month,” using rallies to stoke anti-U.S. sentiment.
Since 2022, North Korea has maintained a hard-line attitude in its foreign policy. Last year, it organized massive rallies in Pyongyang, drawing crowds of up to 100,000 further to intensify hostility toward the U.S. and South Korea.
This year, however, there is speculation that North Korea might moderate its tone during the 75th anniversary events. This comes as President Donald Trump seeks to restart dialogue with North Korea, and South Korea’s newly inaugurated President Lee Jae-myung demonstrates a strong willingness to improve inter-Korean relations.
