An unidentified North Korean individual has crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) into South Korea. South Korean. South Korean forces have detained the individual and are currently investigating the circumstances of their defection.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea announced on Friday that North Korea crossed the MDL along the central-western front on Thursday night. At this time, it remains unclear whether the individual is military personnel or a civilian.

South Korean military officials stated that they identified the individual near the MDL and executed a guided operation to secure them.

A JCS spokesperson informed that relevant agencies will conduct a thorough investigation into the details of the border crossing. Currently, no unusual activity has been observed from North Korean forces in response to the incident.
