As North Korea approaches its Victory Day (July 27, the signing date of the Korean War armistice), on which North Korea claims to have won the Korean War, the regime is ramping up anti-American sentiment and bolstering internal unity.

The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, ran a front-page article on Thursday titled “The Victory Tradition of July 27 is the Cornerstone of Our Republic’s Strength.” It claimed that under the brilliant leadership of the great leader, the people achieved a costly victory in the three-year war against the U.S. imperialists and their allies, who boasted of numerical and technological superiority, by sacrificing blood and lives.

North Korea typically designates the period from June 25 to Victory Day as the Month of Anti-U.S. Joint Struggle, intensifying anti-American sentiment through rallies and other activities.

The newspaper lauded Kim Il Sung’s achievements, stating that the people never wavered or despaired, but fought optimistically, confident in victory with the great leader at the helm.

In a separate six-page article titled “Defeat in the U.S.-North Korea Confrontation is America’s Eternal Fate,” the newspaper asserted that the people inflicted a shameful defeat on the U.S. imperialists for the first time in history.

It further described the U.S. imperialists’ horrific defeat as a historical inevitability and just punishment for reckless provocateurs who misjudged the heroic Korean people.

The article concluded with a stark warning that if the U.S. and its followers forget their fate of defeat and provoke North Korea, it will be a reckless choice that hastens their ultimate destruction.
