North Korea has unveiled wreckage it claims is a U.S. fighter jet shot down during the Korean War, recovered from the West Sea last year.

Rodong Sinmun reported on Thursday that the debris is now on display at the Korean War Victory Memorial Museum’s captured weapons exhibition, titled “Pitiful State Revealed After 70 Years.”

The newspaper said the aircraft wreckage was in terrible condition after over 70 years underwater. It claimed the jet, which violated North Korean airspace during the Korean War, was shot down by the Korean People’s Army. The debris is reportedly barely recognizable.

Additionally, it was reported that fishermen discovered the wreckage during their operations. They were quoted expressing a sense of vindication and anger, recalling the devastation caused by the aircraft during the war’s bombing campaign.

Rodong Sinmun warned the U.S. not to forget the 1950s and not to act recklessly, adding there’s still space in the captured weapons exhibition hall.

From June 25 to July 27, North Korea marks the Month of Joint Anti-American Struggle, a yearly campaign to boost anti-U.S. sentiment tied to the Korean War and armistice dates.
