A delegation of female officials from North Korea is visiting Russia. While the specific schedule and purpose of the visit have not been disclosed, it appears to be part of the expanding cooperation between the two nations.

On Tuesday, North Korea’s state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported that a delegation of female officials, led by Kim Jong Sun, head of the Workers’ Party Central Committee’s Labor Organizations Department, departed Pyongyang the previous day for Russia.

According to the newspaper, Aleksandr Matsegora, the Russian ambassador to North Korea, along with Han Kwang-ho, a deputy department director of the Central Committee of the party, and officials from the Socialist Women’s Union of Korea, saw the delegation off at Pyongyang International Airport.

Kim has held several key positions, including chairperson of the Socialist Women’s Union of Korea and membership in the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly. Since her appointment as head of the Labor Organizations Department at the party’s plenary meeting last June, she has been overseeing various mass organizations in North Korea, such as the Youth League, the Labor Union, the Agricultural Workers’ Union, and the Women’s Union.

The newspaper did not specify the exact purpose of the delegation’s visit to Russia. However, as North Korea and Russia have been extending their cooperation beyond military affairs into social and economic sectors, this move is likely aimed at fostering closer ties between the women’s organizations of both countries.
