North Korea emphasized the spirit of anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters ahead of the August 15 Liberation Day.

The official newspaper of the Workers’ Party, Rodong Sinmun, highlighted the Korean Revolution Museum—which documents the history of the anti-Japanese movement—in an article titled, Deeply Understanding the Immortal Achievements of the Outstanding Figure for the Liberation of the Fatherland, on page 2, published on August 10.

The newspaper described the Korean Revolution Museum as a grand hall of revolutionary tradition, with a ceaseless flow of visitors as the 80th anniversary of the country’s liberation approaches.

On page 5, it introduced anti-Japanese revolutionary artworks, stating that in the sacred journey to liberate the homeland, the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters actively created artworks that resonate with the revolutionary spirit of Mount Paektu and inspire the people to fight.

North Korea, which bases its political legitimacy on the anti-Japanese struggle, refers to August 15 not as Liberation Day but as the Day of Liberation of the Fatherland or the Anniversary of the Liberation of the Fatherland, using the occasion to strengthen internal unity.

On page 1, it emphasized self-reliance, stating that the developmental power of the state, which grows stronger each day under the leadership of the great Party Central Committee, clearly demonstrates the people’s determination to accelerate the historic achievement of comprehensive national rejuvenation through their wisdom, technology, and diligent efforts.

On page 4, it argued that the rice paddy fish farming project offers high economic benefits and solid prospects, and should be actively promoted in line with Party policies.

On page 6, it detailed the construction process of the Gap-hyun Branch of Ryongrim County’s Gaedong Senior Middle School, attributing its success to the true patriots who uphold the Party’s commitment to education.
