The Office of the President of the Republic of Korea addressed media reports on Wednesday claiming that North Korea had removed only two loudspeakers directed at the South, with one being reinstalled on the same day.
Officials clarified that the South Korean military observed North Korean troops dismantling loudspeakers in selected forward areas on August 9.
In an official statement, South Korea’s Presidential Office emphasized that the forces are maintaining close surveillance of North Korean activities.
During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, President Lee Jae-myung stated that it has initiated the removal of the loudspeakers directed at North Korea. Further noting that while the full extent remains unclear, reports indicate that the North is also dismantling some of its speakers. They mentioned that they hope North Korea will follow suit and remove these unnecessary and costly propaganda devices, in line with their efforts to ease tensions along the border.
