On Monday, the May 18 Memorial Foundation and Gwangju City filed a complaint with the Gwangju Police Agency against two external contributors to Sky Daily for allegedly violating the Special Act on the May 18 Democratization Movement, which prohibits the dissemination of false information.

Contributor A, a former North Korean trade representative in the Czech Republic, is accused of spreading false information — including claims of North Korean military involvement — in six columns published in the online newspaper Sky Daily between April and November of last year.

Contributor B, an honorary professor at Sogang University’s Graduate School of Media Communication, allegedly disseminated false information on five occasions from October 2023 to March 2024.

Yoon Mok Hyun, chairman of the May 18 Memorial Foundation, stated that distorting the history of the May 18 Democratization Movement contradicts both the legislative intent behind the Special Act and the broad social consensus supporting the inclusion of the May 18 spirit in the Constitution’s preamble. He urged authorities to conduct a rigorous investigation and take appropriate legal action.
