North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted an on-site inspection of the Sinuiju Greenhouse Complex, which is nearing completion.

The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Thursday that Kim guided the construction project of the Sinuiju Greenhouse Complex on-site on Wednesday. He was accompanied by party secretaries Jo Yong Won and Park Jong Chon, Kim Jae Ryong, head of the party’s Discipline Investigation Department, Kim Yong Su, head of the party’s Financial Management Department, and Kim Chol Sam, the chief secretary of the North Pyeongan Provincial Committee.

The newspaper stated that the construction of the Sinuiju Greenhouse Complex is 97% complete. Currently, trial operations are underway for the greenhouse units, vegetable science research center, guest houses, convenience facilities, daycare centers, kindergartens, and other public buildings, as well as the power and water supply systems for hundreds of residential units.

Kim expressed satisfaction with the progress, saying the construction projects in the area had been optimized and rationalized for efficiency. He added that what had once been barren land had been transformed into what he described as a golden island capable of driving local development and improving the material and cultural lives of residents.

The newspaper also reported that Kim outlined a series of tasks to complete the target projects and discussed methodological issues arising from farm operations, including preparations and management.

Kim had previously announced plans to build this large greenhouse farm in the Sinuiju area after recovering from last year’s flooding. He personally attended the groundbreaking ceremony in February and has visited the construction site five times this year alone. North Korean media have promoted this farm as the largest greenhouse complex, covering 450 jeong (approximately 1,485 acres).

Earlier, on November 19, Kim attended the completion ceremony of a hospital in Kangdong County, and on November 20, he participated in the completion ceremony of the Hoechang County Power Plant. These appearances highlight the achievements of his key initiative, the Local Development 20×10 Policy, while demonstrating his focus on domestic affairs.
