The Ministry of Unification announced on Tuesday that Minister Chung Dong-young chaired a meeting with newly appointed civilian members of the Inter-Korean Relations Development Committee.

The purpose of this meeting was twofold: to brief the recently appointed civilian members on the committee’s operational strategy and to solicit their input on future North Korea policy directions.

Last month, following the end of terms for existing civilian members, the Ministry appointed 15 new civilian members to the 9th committee. The composition of these 15 members includes 10 nominated by the Speaker of the National Assembly, 1 by the Association of Provincial Governors, and 4 recommended by the committee chairperson (the Minister of Unification).

The Inter-Korean Relations Development Committee, as stipulated by Article 14 of the Act on the Development of Inter-Korean Relations, is headed by the Minister of Unification and comprises up to 30 members from both governmental and civilian sectors. Civilian members serve a two-year term.
