As the joint military-police investigation task force (TF) ramps up its inquiry into North Korea’s allegations of drone incursions from South Korea, the Ministry of Unification has announced it will closely monitor Pyongyang’s response.

During a press conference at the Government Complex in Seoul on Monday, Unification Ministry spokesperson Yoon Min-ho stated that the relevant agencies are currently investigating the drone incident. It will be vigilantly observing North Korea’s reaction to this matter.

The military-police TF has brought in a person of interest, identified only as A, for questioning regarding the suspected drone launch on January 16. Concurrently, a graduate student in his 30s, known as B, claimed in a media interview that he was responsible for flying the drone into North Korea, asserting that A merely manufactured the device.

North Korea has remained silent since January 13, when Kim Yo-jong, deputy director of the Workers’ Party of Korea Central Committee, issued a statement demanding acknowledgment and an apology for what Pyongyang termed sovereignty-infringing provocations.
