A man in his 30s, a graduate student, is facing potential arrest for repeatedly flying drones into North Korea.

On February 23, legal sources reported that the presiding judge of the Seoul Central District Court’s warrant division will conduct a pre-arrest hearing for the suspect, identified only as Mr. Oh, at 10:30 a.m. (South Korean time) on Tuesday. Oh faces charges of aiding the enemy and other offenses.

Oh is accused of conducting four test flights with drones programmed to depart from Ganghwa Island in Incheon, traverse North Korean territory including Kaesong and Pyongsan, before returning to Paju in Gyeonggi Province.

The joint military-police task force investigating the case believes Oh’s actions were motivated by potential financial gain from the drone venture.

On February 20, the task force sought an arrest warrant for Oh, citing charges of aiding the enemy, violating aviation safety laws, and breaching military installation security regulations.
