On International Women’s Day, March 8, Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, emphasized the crucial role of women in advancing socialism.
The party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Monday that a commemorative performance took place the previous day at the Pyongyang Gymnasium. Kim attended the event alongside his wife, Ri Sol-ju, and their daughter, Ju Ae.
In his address, Kim acknowledged women’s contributions, particularly in light of the recent 9th Party Congress. He stated that the women will play a pivotal role in fostering a more harmonious and prosperous nation.
Kim praised women’s strength, saying that across all sectors of the revolution – from national defense posts to socialist construction sites, factories, and rural areas – the women demonstrate unwavering strength, resilience, purity, and honesty, never showing weakness or falling behind their male counterparts.
He concluded with an appeal that he earnestly urges all women to fulfill their sacred duty to the times, history, and the homeland by promoting national prosperity, social harmony, and unity.
The newspaper reported that the event was attended by party and government leaders, central committee officials, and exemplary female leaders and workers from various Pyongyang institutions. Several foreign diplomats were also invited.
The performance featured a diverse program, including passionate renditions of party anthems, patriotic songs, and folk music. The newspaper described the venue as filled with the joy and excitement of women celebrating March 8 as their most cherished holiday.
