
Actors Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min, and Lee Hee Joon join forces for Koreans.
Disney+ has unveiled behind-the-scenes photos from the script reading of their new drama Koreans, featuring lead actors Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min, and Lee Hee Joon.
Koreans is a fresh Korean adaptation of FX’s critically acclaimed series The Americans. FX, known for award-winning productions like Shogun and The Bear, brings this spy thriller to Seoul in the 1990s. The original The Americans, which ran for six seasons, garnered widespread acclaim, including a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama. It ranked 8th on BBC’s list of the 21st century’s best television (TV) series and boasts impressive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 96% critic score and 94% audience score.
Set against the backdrop of middle-class apartment complexes, Koreans promises to deliver a compelling narrative filled with period authenticity, multifaceted characters, relatable emotional arcs, and nail-biting suspense.
Lee Byung Hun takes on the role of Kim Myung-joon, an elite North Korean spy who has been living undercover in South Korea for over a decade. His nuanced performance is expected to bring depth and gravitas to the series. Han Ji Min portrays Yoon Hwa-kyung, Kim Myung-joon’s wife and fellow North Korean spy, promising to deliver a layered performance with her trademark subtlety. Adding to the tension, Lee Hee Joon plays Cha Ki-seok, a former violent crimes detective now working in counterintelligence, who moves in next door to the spy couple.
At the helm is director Ahn Gil Ho, known for the hit series The Glory, with screenwriter Park Eun Kyo of Made in Korea fame penning the script. Koreans is slated for release in 2027.
