On Tuesday, the People Power Party strongly condemned President Lee Jae Myung’s expression of regret over the recent North Korean drone incursion, stating it vehemently denounces the Lee administration’s submissive North Korea policy, which is intoxicated by a false sense of peace.
Park Chung-kwon, the party’s chief spokesperson, commented that the president’s diplomatic regret ultimately resulted in nothing but North Korean’s Kim Yo-jong calling him an honest and bold person and a declaration severing ties between the two Koreas.
He questioned, Where can it possibly find signs of improved relations? It’s only heard mockery from North Korea, filled with deceptions, empty dreams, and nonsensical calls for denuclearization. Is it truly satisfied with just one expression of honest and bold after being told it lacks the stature to change the course of history?
Park pointed out that North Korea has repeatedly violated the airspace without offering a single apology. Yet, the Minister of Unification expressed regret to North Korea twice, and now the president has even taken it upon himself to apologize.
He further criticized that the Lee administration bows its head to North Korea, which should be apologizing to them, while remaining silent on their repeated provocations and responsibilities. This reflects a distorted perception of North Korea, where the roles of victim and perpetrator are reversed, and it’s a self-destructive response that undermines the negotiating power.
He concluded that the government’s subservient stance only sends the wrong signal to North Korea that provocations are acceptable. A peace strategy based on begging without a resolute response will only plunge South Korea into greater danger. The government’s lack of determination to protect our sovereignty is instilling an indescribable sense of humiliation and anxiety among the people.
