On June 27, the Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, published a front-page editorial urging citizens to unconditionally achieve the goals set by the Party with heightened revolutionary fervor and determination. The paper declared this year as a pivotal first year in fulfilling the new five-year plan outlined at the Party’s 9th Congress, stressing the need to complete major policy objectives in the second half of the year. Notably, the editorial highlighted the Central Committee’s decision to modernize coal mining districts nationwide, hailing it as an unprecedented grand event since the country’s founding and the Party’s establishment.
In a related article titled, The Nation’s Coal Mines Ignite with Central Committee’s Decisions, the newspaper reported that the coal industry has enthusiastically embraced the plenary meeting’s resolutions, pledging to increase production. Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party, expressed his commitment to coal mine modernization, describing it as another bold revolution to transform the backward conditions of mining towns that fall far short of the country’s status and current needs. The paper also noted that various coal mines have set more ambitious production targets and resolved to achieve their annual production plans ahead of schedule.
