Drone Operations Commander Kim Yong Dae, suspected of involvement in North Korea’s unmanned aerial vehicle incursion, faces a detention hearing.

According to legal sources, Senior Judge Nam Sejin of the Seoul Central District Court will conduct a pre-trial detention hearing for Commander Kim at 3 PM on Monday. Kim faces charges of falsifying official documents. The court’s decision is expected as early as late as Monday night..

Special Prosecutor Cho Eun Seok’s team, investigating the insurrection and treason cases linked to the South Korean December 3rd martial law crisis, alleges that Commander Kim conspired with former President Yoon Suk Yeol and ex-Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun to deploy drones over Pyongyang, North Korea, in an attempt to provoke military action.

On July 17th, Commander Kim underwent a grueling 13-hour interrogation as a suspect, facing accusations of treason, document forgery, and abuse of power.

Following the interrogation, Kim maintained his innocence, telling reporters that he firmly believes there is no connection between the emergency martial law and his operation.

On Sunday, the special prosecutor’s team announced they had filed for an arrest warrant against Commander Kim, primarily on charges of falsifying official documents.

The warrant application reportedly alleges that Commander Kim and others executed a covert drone operation over Pyongyang and subsequently attempted to cover up the incident.

In a press release, the special prosecutor’s team stated that the team have requested the arrest warrant based on verified criminal evidence and the need to secure the suspect. Sources indicate that Commander Kim was placed under emergency arrest on July 18th, citing flight risk and potential destruction of evidence.
