LG Electronics announced on Thursday that its organic light-emitting diode (OLED) television (TV) received high praise from film experts in the U.S. and Europe during a roadshow. The experts experienced firsthand the TV’s ability to accurately convey the creator’s intent.
OLED technology features self-emitting displays that produce light without a separate backlight. This allows for perfect black levels, delivering outstanding contrast ratios, and enables thin and flexible designs primarily used in premium devices.
Last month, LG held the LG OLED Hollywood Roadshow in Los Angeles, followed by events this month in London and Munich.
Since 2024, LG has been introducing key features of its new OLED TV products to video production professionals across the U.S. and Europe, including Hollywood. The company organizes this event annually to gather feedback on improving TV picture quality and viewing experiences from a creator’s perspective.
The Hollywood roadshow took place at Picture Shop, a global film production company. Notable attendees included cinematographer Johanna Coelho from the HBO drama The Pitt and color scientist Joshua Pines, known for his work on films like Gravity, The Revenant, and the Star Wars series.
In Europe, LG hosted events at the Strand Palace Hotel in London and ARRI’s studio in Munich. Colorists and video professionals responsible for color grading content for major streaming platforms like Disney+ and Apple TV+ attended these sessions.
Cinematographer Johanna Coelho, who participated in the roadshow, stated that she always consider the viewing environment when shooting. LG OLED TVs accurately represent blacks and contrast even in bright settings, effectively reducing screen reflections. This allows the content creator’s intended colors and depth to be conveyed, maximizing viewer immersion.
Color scientist Joshua Pines remarked that LG OLED demonstrated outstanding color reproduction comparable to reference monitors used in studios. It naturally expresses delicate details without banding or noise, impressively achieving the picture quality that content production environments prioritize.
This year’s roadshow featured the 2026 model LG OLED Evo AI (model G6). This TV combines the 3rd Generation Alpha 11 artificial intelligence (AI) Processor for exceptional brightness and color with Reflection Free Premium technology, which reduces light reflection without compromising picture quality in bright environments.
The event also highlighted the differences in picture quality compared to red, green and blue (RGB) LED-based liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs, emphasizing LG OLED’s unique Perfect Color and Perfect Black capabilities. Through comparisons with other OLED TVs, LG showcased its superior performance in reducing light reflection, High Dynamic Range (HDR) rendering, gradation capabilities, and color accuracy.
RGB LED refers to light-emitting diodes that combine red, green, and blue elements into a single chip to create various colors. This technology allows for the mixing of light by adjusting the brightness of each color, enabling the expression of nearly all colors, including white.
Baek Seon-pil, head of LG Electronics’ Display CX division, stated that it will continue to enhance the competitive edge of LG OLED TV’s picture quality through ongoing communication and collaboration with content production professionals who rigorously evaluate even the slightest differences in picture quality.
