Jeong Jae Bin, a standout from Seoul Physical Education High School, won the men’s 63 kg gold medal at the 2024 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Chuncheon.
On Tuesday, Jeong dominated Bulgaria’s Stanislav Mitkov with a decisive 2-0 victory (13-1, 13-1) in the final match, held at the Air Dome in Songam Sports Town, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
Jeong was unstoppable throughout the tournament, not dropping a single set from the round of 64 all the way to the final, showcasing his elite skills and clinching the championship title.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for South Korea, though. Fellow Seoul Physical Education High School student Kim Si Woo was eliminated in the round of 32 in the men’s 52 kg division, while Choi Soo Bin of Jungang Girls’ High School fell short in the women’s 59 kg division, exiting in the round of 16.
The tournament features 20 weight classes, split evenly between men and women, with individual sparring matches determining the champions.
At the last Junior World Championships in 2022, held in Sofia, South Korea made a clean sweep, winning the overall team title in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
