TechApple’s OLED iPad Pro Boosts Global Shipments by 356% in Just One Quarter

The global shipment of OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) tablet panels reached a record high in the second quarter, driven by the launch of Apple’s iPad Pro, which features OLED panels.

According to market research firm DSCC, global OLED tablet panel shipments in the second quarter of this year reached 4.11 million units, a 356% increase compared to the same period last year and a 142% increase from the first quarter.

Apple’s introduction of the 11.1-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models has dramatically increased the overall shipment of OLED panels. In the second quarter, Apple dominated the OLED panel procurement market with an impressive 72% share, and each iPad Pro model accounted for 36% of this total.

Huawei followed with a 13% market share, while Samsung Electronics held 9%.

In the OLED tablet panel sector, LG Display and Samsung Display led the market, each holding a 41% share. Both companies supply OLED panels for Apple’s iPad Pro.

Looking ahead to the third quarter, DSCC forecasts a 5% decrease in OLED tablet panel shipments compared to the second quarter. However, there is an expected 169% increase from last year. This optimistic projection is driven by Huawei’s recent launch of an OLED tablet and Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy Tab Plus and Ultra models.

Apple’s market share of OLED tablet panels is projected to decrease to 47%. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics and Huawei are expected to capture 20% and 17% of the market, respectively, according to DSCC.

Regarding panel supplier market share for the third quarter, Samsung Display is expected to lead with 46%, followed by LG Display at 25% and China’s Everdisplay (EDO) at 23%.

For the entire year, DSCC forecasts that more than 14 million OLED tablet panels will be sold, reflecting a growth rate of over 200% compared to the previous year.
