Korea Zinc is set to implement ChatGPT Enterprise, a generative AI-based work support platform, as part of its transition to an artificial intelligence (AI) driven smart smelting facility.

The company announced on Friday that it plans to roll out ChatGPT Enterprise across the organization starting mid-month to boost operational efficiency and productivity.

ChatGPT Enterprise is a tailored service developed by OpenAI to enhance data security and streamline tasks for businesses and organizations.

Last month, Korea Zinc established the system and initiated pilot operations with select employees. The company is currently evaluating on-site acceptance, methods for expanding its use, and the real-world impact in the workplace.

The implementation will be carried out through Samsung SDS, OpenAI’s first domestic partner in South Korea. Samsung SDS will oversee the entire process, from strategy development to design, application, and operation, leveraging its AI transformation (AX) framework that covers AI consulting, development, operations, cloud services, and security.

By integrating ChatGPT Enterprise, Korea Zinc expects AI to assist or automate routine tasks, allowing employees to concentrate on core responsibilities. The company also anticipates improvements in knowledge management based on internal data, faster information retrieval, and enhanced technical information management and security.

The need for an AI-based knowledge management system has become increasingly crucial as the company expands its operations and workforce through initiatives like the Troika Drive strategy and the construction of an integrated smelting facility in the U.S.

A spokesperson for Korea Zinc reported that employees who have tested ChatGPT Enterprise have responded very positively. The company expects a range of benefits, including increased individual productivity, reduced information asymmetry, and improved security measures.
