OpenAI’s latest image-generating artificial intelligence (AI) model, previously known as Duct-tape, has recently garnered attention for its sophisticated image creation capabilities.
OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Image 2.0 on its official blog on Tuesday. This release marks the formal debut of the AI model Duct-tape, which had recently made waves for its near-flawless Korean language rendering.
Duct-tape initially gained traction on the AI evaluation platform Arena AI for its exceptional Korean language generation.
Unlike its predecessors that struggled with Korean text in images, Duct-tape excels in Korean language production and accurately portrays Korean landscapes and public figures.

Industry speculation about Duct-tape being OpenAI’s next big release has proven correct.
ChatGPT Image 2.0 is the latest iteration of OpenAI’s image generation tool, which sparked the Ghibli-style image trend last year. This new version is built on the ImageGen 2.0 framework.
OpenAI touts ChatGPT Image 2.0 as the pioneering image model with reasoning capabilities.
The reasoning and pro models of ChatGPT Image 2.0 leverage the ChatGPT reasoning and pro models for information retrieval. This allows for multiple image generation from a single prompt, with built-in output validation.
OpenAI states that these reasoning capabilities enable efficient handling of complex image-content relationships, proving particularly effective when accuracy and current information are paramount.

The model’s linguistic prowess now extends beyond English. ChatGPT Image 2.0 demonstrates proficiency in non-Latin scripts, including Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Hindi, and Bengali.
This feature is particularly advantageous for creating designs that incorporate text, such as posters, infographics, and comics.
OpenAI predicts that this model will boost productivity in the content industry by streamlining the creation of marketing materials and storyboards.
They also highlight its potential in fields requiring precise textual content within images, such as educational materials, infographics, and executive summaries.
OpenAI plans to make ChatGPT Image 2.0 accessible to all users, including those with free accounts. However, the advanced reasoning and pro models will be exclusive to subscribers of the 20 to 200 USD monthly plans.
