Blizzard Entertainment unveiled a new open-world StarCraft shooter and a slate of new titles based on its flagship intellectual properties, including Diablo V and World of Warcraft: Forever, at BlizzCon 2026, the first edition of the event in three years.
Blizzard announced its plans for new games and updates during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 on Sept. 12 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.
First, the company plans to release a story-driven open-world shooter based on the StarCraft IP, titled “StarCraft,” in spring 2030.
StarCraft was released in 1998 and became hugely popular in South Korea. It also helped fuel the PC bang boom and laid the foundation for the country’s esports market.
While the original StarCraft was a real-time strategy (RTS) game, the new title shifts to the open-world shooter genre. It will be the first official shooter game set in the StarCraft universe.
Diablo, the role-playing game (RPG) series that marks its 30th anniversary this year, is also moving into a new generation. Blizzard plans to release the next installment, Diablo V, in spring 2029.
Blizzard is also expanding the Diablo IP beyond games. It is producing an animated series set in the Diablo universe in partnership with Netflix.
“World of Warcraft: Forever” will be released Nov. 4. Forever will be the third World of Warcraft gaming experience alongside the current version of World of Warcraft and Classic.
