SK Hynix responded on Wednesday to foreign media reports claiming negotiations with Intel Corporation for U.S. memory chip production, stating that no decisions have been finalized.
In a press release, SK Hynix clarified that they’re exploring various strategies to boost the global competitiveness, but nothing has been confirmed at this time. The company also emphasized that no decisions have been made regarding the two scenarios mentioned in the news reports.
SK Hynix further stated that there are no confirmed agreements for collaboration with any specific companies mentioned in the articles or for production within the U.S.
Earlier that day, Reuters, citing multiple anonymous key sources, reported that SK Hynix was in talks to potentially lease part of Intel Corporation’s semiconductor factory under construction in Ohio.
The report also suggested that Intel Corporation, SK Hynix, and major cloud service providers seeking to secure memory supplies were considering establishing a joint venture. However, the negotiations are still in their early stages, with no final decisions made.
Reuters added that the structure of any potential deal could change, and even if an agreement is reached, it remains unclear what types of memory SK Hynix might produce at the Ohio facility.
