Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook) has announced that it will supply its electric vehicle (EV)-specific performance tire iON evo SUV and all-season tire iON evo AS SUV as original equipment for BMW’s flagship electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) model, the iX.

Both tires are designed using Hankook’s proprietary iON INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY system, which balances low noise, improved mileage, superior grip, and low rolling resistance to support the performance of electric vehicles producing over 500 horsepower.

The iON evo SUV boasts a 10% increase in cornering stiffness. Its specialized noise reduction technology cuts interior noise by up to 18% during driving. The tire’s lower rolling resistance improves energy efficiency by 6%, while reduced wear extends tread life by up to 15%. Meanwhile, the iON evo AS SUV enhances lateral and cornering stiffness by 25% and 20%, respectively, ensuring stable handling for heavier vehicles.

This latest supply agreement follows Hankook’s 2022 contract to provide tires for BMW’s first all-electric Gran Coupe, the i4. With this new deal, Hankook is cementing its position as a key partner in BMW’s electrification strategy.
