North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observed a ground test of a new solid-fuel engine that utilizes carbon fiber composite materials, according to state media reports.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party, reported on its front page on Tuesday that the Missile Industry Department had conducted a ground test on Monday of a high-thrust solid-fuel engine employing carbon fiber composite materials. The report noted that Kim had personally attended the test.

Kim praised the development of the high-thrust carbon fiber solid-fuel engine as a remarkable achievement, describing it as one of the most strategic outcomes in recent efforts to modernize defense technology. A flag-raising ceremony was held in Pyongyang on the eve of the national holiday.
