PoliticsTrump Takes Center Stage at UN: Will His Vision Reshape Global Politics?

President Donald Trump is set to address the 80th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York on Tuesday and will hold meetings with leaders from Ukraine, Argentina, and the European Union (EU).

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced during a press briefing on Monday that President Trump will deliver a major speech tomorrow morning, highlighting eight months of historic achievements, including the resolution of seven global conflicts, and America’s renewed global influence.

Levitt added that the President will also discuss how globalist institutions have significantly undermined the international order and present his candid yet constructive vision for the world.

In preparation, President Trump will depart Washington, D.C. for New York on the evening of Monday, with First Lady Melania Trump joining him in New York.

Levitt further stated that following his address, the President will hold bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General and leaders from Ukraine, Argentina, and the European Union (EU). He will also participate in multilateral discussions with leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Jordan.

It is anticipated that President Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss potential ceasefire negotiations in the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.

He is also expected to discuss U.S. financial assistance, such as loans or currency swaps, with Argentine President Javier Milei, whose country is facing an economic crisis due to depleted foreign reserves.

Additionally, talks with EU leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, are likely to focus on maintaining and strengthening sanctions against Russia.

In multilateral meetings with leaders from Islamic and Middle Eastern nations like Qatar and Saudi Arabia, President Trump is expected to address Middle East stability, counter-terrorism efforts, energy cooperation, and the Palestinian issue.

When asked about the recent recognition of Palestine as a state by the UK, Australia, and Canada, Levitt stated that the President will address this later, but added, he opposes this decision.

She elaborated that this move does not aid in the immediate goal of securing the release of hostages in Gaza, nor does it contribute to ending the conflict. Frankly, Trump believes this decision rewards Hamas.

Levitt also mentioned that we can expect to hear the President’s thoughts on this matter during his UN address tomorrow.

Following his speech, Trump will attend a reception with over 100 heads of state, including President Lee, before returning to the White House in Washington, D.C.

On Thursday, President Trump will hold a summit with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

On Friday, he plans to travel to Long Island to watch the Ryder Cup, the prestigious golf competition between the U.S. and Europe.

Meanwhile, President Lee Jae Myung will deliver a keynote speech at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, outlining his vision and policies on global issues, including strategies to address the crisis of democracy and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

On Wednesday, as chair of the UN Security Council, he will lead a public discussion on Artificial Intelligence and International Peace and Security. While no formal meeting with President Trump is scheduled during this UN General Assembly, the possibility of brief informal interactions has not been ruled out. The South Korean Presidential Office has confirmed that no follow-up trade negotiations will take place during this U.S. visit.
