LG Electronics announced on Monday that it will unveil its new micro light emitting diode (LED) product, the LG Magnit Active Micro LED, starting in South Korea on Tuesday before expanding to key markets including North America.
This flagship model in LG Electronics’ ultra-large, ultra-high-definition micro LED display lineup boasts an impressive 136-inch screen with a 4K (3840×2160) resolution and a staggering 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, delivering an unparalleled immersive experience.
What sets this product apart is its use of active matrix technology in the self-emitting micro LED display. This allows for individual pixel control, resulting in more refined ultra-high-definition images compared to conventional passive matrix products that control pixels by rows and columns.
LG Electronics’ proprietary module surface treatment technology minimizes light reflection, ensuring deep blacks and accurate colors in any viewing environment. The precise alignment minimizes seams between modules, while the flicker-free design reduces eye strain during extended viewing sessions.
The built-in speakers on either side of the screen deliver up to 4.2-channel surround sound with a total output of 100 watts. Support for enhanced audio return channel (eARC) enables lossless playback of high-quality audio, bringing a cinema-like audio experience into the home.
Powered by the 6th generation artificial intelligence (AI) Alpha 9 processor, the display analyzes content creators’ intent to adjust screen noise and recognizes faces, objects, text, and backgrounds, delivering natural and three-dimensional image quality. Its 144Hz refresh rate optimizes the display for fast-paced games and sports events.
LG Electronics’ proprietary smart television (TV) platform, web operating system (OS), provides access to the ad-supported free streaming service LG Channels, as well as a variety of over-the-top (OTT) content and games. Subscribers can also enjoy LG Gallery Plus, featuring a range of content including fine art and game illustrations, effectively transforming their home into a vast exhibition space. The product supports AirPlay 2 and Miracast for seamless screen sharing with iOS and Android devices.
The display incorporates Dolby Vision, a premium high dynamic range (HDR) video technology, and has received electromagnetic compatibility certification for residential spaces from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
LG Electronics plans to further develop this product into an infinitely expandable video wall format, aiming to capture the business-to-business (B2B) market in the future.
