North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently attended the inauguration ceremony of the Hwaeyang County People’s Power Plant. At this small-to-medium-sized hydroelectric facility, he cut the ceremonial ribbon. This event is part of a series of construction achievements that the regime has been actively promoting, showcasing their push for rapid development.

The state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported on Friday that Kim had presided over the completion ceremony the previous day. The paper emphasized that this power plant is the final project in a series of six hydroelectric facilities deemed crucial for Gangwon Province’s development, following similar plants in Icheon, Muncheon, Sepo, Pyonggang, and Goseong.

During the ceremony, Kim commended the workers and officials who contributed to the plant’s construction, recognizing their dedication and efforts. He then conducted a thorough inspection of the facility, including visits to the historical exhibition room, control center, and generator hall.

Page three of the newspaper carried Kim’s remarks from the ceremony. He commended the resilience of Gangwon Province residents and said their determination to overcome difficult environmental conditions would help advance regional development. The day before, a commemorative performance titled Our Supreme Leader and the People of Gangwon Province was held at the Gangwon Provincial Arts Theater.

On page four, the newspaper ran an article headlined The Resolve of Korea, The Pace of Korea From Groundbreaking to Immediate Completion. It referenced Kim’s attendance at the opening ceremony of Gangdong County Hospital on Wednesday and described the event as a sign of improving living conditions nationwide. The article also mentioned the construction of new housing in Pungseo-ri, Onsung County.

Page five reported on an event at Daedongmun Kindergarten in Jung District marking Children’s Health Day. Speakers emphasized the importance of supporting party childcare policies to raise healthier future generations. The paper also said the Pyongyang sock factory is increasing production to help improve the quality of life.

Page six highlighted developing countries’ efforts to strengthen education systems and reported that a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson criticized Japan over what Beijing views as rising militarism.
