Hyundai Motor’s compact sedan, the Elantra, has achieved a remarkable milestone in the U.S. market, surpassing 4 million units sold over its 24-year history.

This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy in a market traditionally dominated by SUVs and pickup trucks, setting the Elantra apart from other Korean-made vehicles in the U.S.

Hyundai Motor Company reported on Sunday that the Elantra has sold a cumulative 4,016,661 units in the U.S. since its 1991 debut, with 148,200 units moved in the previous year alone.

The Elantra hit significant sales milestones rapidly, crossing the 1 million mark in 2005, 2 million in 2013, and 3 million in 2018, just 14 years after its initial U.S. launch.

Industry experts attribute the Elantra’s success in the U.S. market to its competitive pricing and diverse model range. With a starting MSRP in the mid-$22,000 range, the Elantra offers strong value compared to its rivals in the segment. The lineup’s breadth, spanning from efficient gasoline models to hybrid variants and high-performance N models, caters to a wide range of consumer preferences.

As Hyundai celebrates its 40th anniversary in the U.S. market this year, having first entered in 1986, the automaker plans to unveil a new Elantra model. A Hyundai spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to continually enhancing its product offerings to maintain its strong position in the U.S. market.
