On March 14, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea, drawing unanimous condemnation from both ruling and opposition parties in South Korea. The action was denounced as a threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and a move that contradicts international efforts for diplomacy.

Democratic Party spokesperson Baek Seung-ah issued a written statement, asserting that North Korea’s ballistic missile launch is escalating tensions in the region.

Baek emphasized that military provocations and shows of force will yield no benefits. It strongly urges North Korea to immediately cease these destabilizing actions and instead pursue dialogue and cooperation for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.

People Power Party spokesman Cho Yong-sul also released a statement, saying that they have vehemently condemn North Korea’s ballistic missile launch, which poses a direct threat to security on the Korean Peninsula.

Cho criticized the launch as a blatant provocation that disregards repeated warnings from the international community and the United Nations (UN) sanctions. He added that this calculated move to destabilize the security environment cannot be justified under any circumstances, and its gravity should not be underestimated.

The spokesman further stated that the South Korean government and military must bolster surveillance and vigilance in cooperation with U.S. forces, preparing for potential further provocations from North Korea. It’s crucial to demonstrate to the international community our strong condemnation and unwavering resolve against any additional illegal provocations.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea fired more than ten unidentified ballistic missiles eastward. Intelligence suggests the missiles were launched around 1:20 p.m. (South Korean time) from the Sunan area near Pyongyang.
