Kim Jong Un, Supreme Leader of North Korea, observed a ground test of a high-thrust solid-fuel rocket engine using carbon fiber composites. He declared that the nation’s strategic military capabilities have reached their pinnacle.

On March 29, North Korea’s state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported Kim’s inspection of the new solid-fuel engine test. The exact date of the test was not disclosed.

The newspaper claimed the new solid-fuel engine boasts a maximum thrust of 2,500 kN (kilonewtons). This marks a significant improvement from last September’s announcement of a 1,971 kN thrust engine for the Hwasong-20 missile, representing a 40% increase over its predecessor. Analysts estimate this latest test demonstrates a further 20% boost in solid-fuel engine thrust.

The unveiling of this enhanced engine strongly suggests its intended use in intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of striking the U.S. mainland. The continuous thrust improvements are likely aimed at developing multiple-warhead ICBMs, as increased propulsion is crucial for launching heavier payloads.

According to the state media, this solid-fuel engine development is part of a new five-year defense plan focusing on the ongoing advancement of strategic strike capabilities.

Kim emphasized the test’s critical role in elevating North Korea’s strategic military power to unprecedented levels. He asserted that their defense capabilities, bolstered by such advancements, will continue to accelerate through the development of economically and technologically superior components.

The leader also issued directives to actively promote qualitative enhancements in the nation’s strategic military capabilities.

In related news, Kim observed capability tests of a new main battle tank. After witnessing trials of its active protection system, conducted by the Defense Science Institute’s armored weapons research team, he expressed satisfaction. Kim claimed the tank’s interception system demonstrated complete capability to neutralize almost all existing anti-tank weapons.

Additionally, Kim ordered a reorganization of special operations forces, visiting a training facility to assess their capabilities. He praised the troops as the backbone of North Korea’s military, tasked with safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and the people’s safety. The leader posed for commemorative photos with the soldiers.

The state newspaper reported Kim’s emphasis on rigorous preparation at all military levels to align with modern warfare trends. He shared his vision for reorganizing special operations capabilities and addressed related strategic issues, though specific details were not disclosed.
