Google Cloud has launched “MLB Scout Insights,” a real-time AI-powered commentary service built in partnership with Major League Baseball. Available through the GameDay feature in the official MLB app, the service runs on Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash and Gemma models.

MLB Scout Insights analyzes decades of historical MLB data alongside real-time Statcast tracking data to deliver game-specific insights during live play. The service goes beyond basic statistics by introducing a concept called “surprisal,” which surfaces unusual anomaly data designed to highlight moments fans are most likely to find compelling.

The service rolled out globally to MLB app users on March 25, timed to the start of the 2025 MLB season. Google Cloud says the AI will continue to improve throughout the season, learning from user feedback and incoming data to deliver more refined commentary over time.
