North Korea on April 17 carried an editorial on the front page of Rodong Sinmun titled “Let us struggle through new methods of creation suited to the demands of the comprehensive development phase of socialism,” emphasizing new approaches to implement the decisions of the ruling party’s 9th Congress.

The newspaper relayed remarks by Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party, calling for a shift in creative methods, saying, “Let us all advance with redoubled courage and confidence, waging greater struggles and creating new miracles to hasten even greater victories and glory.”

It also stressed the need to eliminate outdated and backward practices across all areas of state and social life and to establish new standards and records, adding that new methods of creation should become the leading ethos across all sectors and units.

On the same front page, the newspaper highlighted the role of the metal industry in an article titled “Let the metal industry become a reliable pillar of the national economy.” It quoted Kim as saying, “The metal industry sector must further perfect our-style ironmaking and steelmaking methods and increase steel production,” underscoring its importance in carrying out the five-year plan.

It also reported that the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry is promoting technological innovation and renovation of production processes to complete the Juche-based iron production system.

On page 2, the newspaper reviewed achievements in party building following the 9th Congress, stating that over the past five years, party-wide strengthening and the ruling and combat capabilities of the party have been enhanced. It also highlighted the significance of presenting five key lines for party building in the new era.

On page 3, the paper reported that pro-North Korea residents in Japan held a central meeting and commemorative events at the Choson Hall in Tokyo to mark the 114th anniversary of Kim Il Sung’s birth. It said officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan participated, adopting a celebratory report and congratulatory messages. It also emphasized strengthening youth league organizations and enhancing the role of young people, stating that “work with youth is a part of party work.”

On page 4, the newspaper highlighted achievements in modernizing the machinery industry by introducing the completion of the first-phase renovation and modernization project at the Ryongsong Machine Complex.

On page 5, it stressed tasks related to national land management and agriculture, including implementation of a nationwide flood control plan and expansion of rice-fish farming, calling for step-by-step execution. It also introduced examples of improved teaching methods in the education sector.

On page 6, the newspaper reported that a presidential aide of Russia criticized Japan’s moves toward militarization and included content condemning Israel’s expansion of settlements in the West Bank as an act undermining peace in the Middle East.
