Cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb is ramping up its security measures by implementing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) to combat potential threats from emerging technologies like quantum computers.

On Thursday, Bithumb unveiled its strategy to adopt next-generation encryption technology and bolster its security infrastructure across its entire platform.

PQC is an advanced encryption method designed to withstand decryption attempts even by powerful quantum computers. As quantum computing technology rapidly progresses, concerns over the vulnerabilities of current encryption systems have intensified, prompting crypto exchanges to take preemptive action. Industry analysts suggest that the adoption of cutting-edge encryption technology could become a crucial differentiator in the competitive landscape among exchanges.

In partnership with cybersecurity firm Aton, Bithumb is exploring ways to integrate PQC-based security solutions throughout its platform. The exchange is simultaneously working on projects to implement quantum security technology in critical areas such as cryptocurrency wallet management and user authentication systems. This follows a technical agreement Bithumb signed with Aton in February to introduce PQC security solutions.

To enhance the security of private keys, a critical component of asset protection, Bithumb plans to implement PQC-based encryption systems across all processes, including input, authentication, transmission, and storage. The exchange aims to tailor Aton’s user and device authentication and end-to-end encryption technologies to strengthen the overall security of customer information and asset access.

Moreover, to counter emerging threats such as quantum computer-based hacking attempts, Bithumb is upgrading its monitoring system to detect suspicious transactions in real-time. The exchange’s comprehensive strategy includes not only technical measures but also the development of a multi-layered protection system to enhance investor safeguards.

A Bithumb spokesperson stated that its objective is to address concerns about cryptocurrency security and provide a robust trading environment that can adapt to future technological advancements.
